My one and only Kangaroo in the Wild Experience

Kangaroos are deer that went to prison
I laughed so much when I saw this photo I had to share this story

Someone asked me the other day if I had ever seen a Kangaroo in the wild. So, I told them about the time I was working as a catering boy on the Westminster Bridge, a ship anchored off the Western Australian port of Dampier, waiting to load a cargo of iron ore.

We only got one night ashore so I took a long taxi ride to the only open bar with an assistant steward and the Chief Cook, a huge lad from Liverpool who was as tough as nails. The bar was dead, with just a couple of locals, but after a few drinks, it sure came to life!

The cook got into a nasty fight with an Aborigine who was also as tough as nails. The barman called the police. To keep the peace the officer decided to drive us back to the ship. I sat next to him, chatting away, when he suddenly said 'Roo!' I had no idea what that was talking about until he shone his spotlight on a Kangaroo happily bouncing through the wilderness. That was the only time I ever saw a Kangaroo outside of a zoo and I'll never forget the experience. Like the kangaroo in the photo, it brings a smile to my face.
